My experiments with macro photography have created some great ideas for paintings.  The hoverfly kindly ignored my looming lens while I captured him pollinating this beach daisy.  Because of his colouration, he is often reviled, being mistaken for a wasp.

I painted this piece on cradled wood panel.  Made from renewable pawlonia wood, the panel gives a different feel than traditional canvas.  More work is required in sanding and gessoing the panel before painting the entire surface in azo red light.  The image is then worked in layers, leaving some of the original drawing in place to indicate the tracery of the wings.
